Ok my fellow nerds and nerdettes here is my down and dirty quick and easy review of Guardians of the Galaxy. I went to a screening- I will have to obviously go again to see the post credits super secret scene but let me tell you - after seeing this movie I wanted to see it immediately...soon as possible...I want it to play on the inside of my eyelids so I can see it when I sleep :)
Story- its straight forward, its not overly complicated, its not convoluted, it doesn't take itself waaaaaaaaaayyyy tooooooo seriously.
Villains- for a sweaty comic book nerd you know Ronin the Accuser. For general audience he could have been a bit more fleshed out but its by no means a "Malekith" situation here. Thanos is there for a little bit which is what I wanted...a tease. We all know It's going to be full blown Thanos in Avengers 3 so just keep teasing Marvel ! Nebula- I want to have your blue baby.
Heroes- Rocket and Groot show stoppers and show stealers and the reason why kids are going to make their parents see this movie and buy their toys. Great job with what could have been disastrous characters.
Gamora- I want to have your green baby. At this point Zoe Saldana is THE SCI FI ACTION QUEEN. I want to see her fight a Predator. I want to see her fight the Terminator. I want to see her with a lightsaber.
Drax- All I'll say is thumbs up to Dave Bautista. You surprised the hell out of everyone. More Drax please and thank you.
Star Lord- Chris Pratt....not only is he charming, funny and attached to the sexy hot Anna Farris but now he's buff and ripped....damn. He invokes memories of young Indiana Jones with a Han Solo wit and I can't imagine another Peter Quill.
Visuals- Spectacular and colorful, very unique in it's own way....its the polar opposite of WB superhero movies. This lifts you up and makes you happy...it's candy for the eyes. As opposed to the darker blue toned grimmer Batman and Man of Steel films. In defense its a fun space adventure but then again what was Green Lantern supposed to be ?
James Gunn you hit a 3 run homerun here....its a great start to a franchise and a solid addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In short its a 4 out of 5 Nerd Burgers with a side of fries from me.
Yours truly,
